Life Unfiltered ~ My Mama, Ms. Juanita Macon
Today, my emotions were all over the place.
Mother’s Day will do that to you, especially when you are sitting next to the woman who has been your mother, your protector, your teacher, your truth-teller, and your safe place all wrapped into one.
I can go on for life talking about my mother, Ms. Juanita Macon. And honestly, one blog will never be enough. The love and bond between her and me cannot even be fully explained. It is one of those things you feel deep in your spirit. It is in the way she looks at me, the way she says what she means, the way she has always been herself no matter who likes it or not.
Now, do we always agree on everything? Absolutely not. She is my mama, and I am her daughter, so of course we have had our moments. But that is life. That is family. That is love with history behind it.
Watching her at 79 years old is something I do not take lightly. Some days she is happy. Some days she is sad. Some days she is irritated and ready to knock somebody out. Then there are the moments when she is loving, funny, calm, chill, and just being her authentic self. All of it matters to me. Every version of her matters to me.
Sitting next to her in church on this Mother’s Day was a blessing. Not just because it was Mother’s Day, but because I got to be there beside her. I got to look over and see my mama still here, still strong, still Juanita.
This woman right here is my mama. And let me be clear: nobody can ever tell me anything about my mama. I know who she is. I know what she has been through. I know what she has given. I know what she means to me.
There will definitely be more blogs about my mama, because one post could never hold all the love, memories, lessons, and stories I have about her.
But today, I just want to say this:
Mom, I love all of you. The soft parts, the strong parts, the funny parts, the irritated parts, the praying parts, the “don’t play with me” parts — all of it.
I love you, Mama. Always. 💐
The One Time They Thought They Could Take A Picture Without Me.
Yup I added myself to the photo.

Happy Mother's Day to you and your Mother!
